Homage to Pisendel, feat. Vivaldi

In 1716 Johann Georg Pisendel made a trip to Italy following the court of the Elector Prince Augustus, where he was able to learn about the latest musical trends, collecting many manuscripts of the most famous composers of the time. Especially noteworthy is his relationship with Vivaldi, whose pupil he was in all probability: the “Violin Sonata RV 29 in A major” and the “Violin Concerto RV 237 in D minor” offered here are in fact expressly dedicated “for monsieur Pisendel.” Continuing across the boot, he met in Florence Martino Bitti (“Concerto à 4 in D major”), a celebrated star violinist at the Florentine court, and then went on to Rome and Naples. Returning to his homeland some time later, he continued to collect the best compositions of Italian musicians who had emigrated abroad; the violin concertos of Andrea Zani and Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello are the perfect example of how the Italian taste “after Vivaldi,” so beloved by Pisendel, was in fact the most appreciated in courts throughout Europe.
